Winter at the Library
What do Robert Frost, Jan Brett, Thoreau, and Edwin Teale all have in common? An appreciation for SNOW. Whether you enjoy winter best by reading your favorite author, or by studying nature as you hike, ski, or snowshoe, winter offers us many opportunities to gain a new perspective on cold and snow. Our library exhibit this month highlights nature's winter gifts, and more information about local snowshoeing/skiing areas and birding in winter.

New databases
The library has two new campus databases.
JSTOR: A digital archive of complete back files for 360 core scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Many date from the 19th century. We subscribe to Arts & Sciences II portion of the database. JSTOR's moving wall policy means that there is a gap from 2 to 5 years between the most recently published issue and the date of the most recent issue available in JSTOR.
Project Muse: Indexes and provides full-text access to over 220 journals from 37 scholarly publishers. Project MUSE covers the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics, and many others starting in 1993.
These databases are available from on and off campus through our databases page at the library web site. If you have questions on these resources or would like a demonstration call the Reference Desk at 9602.

Welcome to the start of a new semester
Welcome to the start of a new semester at the University. We have been busy over the summer with projects that we hope will make it easier for you to use the library. The changes we've made were requested by you last spring through the library survey (LibQual). You asked us to make it easier to find the periodicals/magazines. We've moved all of the paper magazines together. They are now located on the second floor to your right if you use the south stairwell. You also asked about additional group study spaces. With moving the magazines together, we've been able to create additional group study on the first floor by the front door. Most of the group spaces have electrical outlets for your laptops. We've added a television running CNN as well to the space, in case you want to catch up on what is happening in the world.
